WELCOME TO NEWVILLE
By the Honorable John E. Gatten, Mayor
Welcome to the Borough of Newville's website! Whether you are a resident of the borough seeking information concerning an upcoming town event, or a visitor searching for a wonderful community in which to locate, I extend to you the best wishes of the Newville Borough Council and the citizens of Newville.
I trust that you find our website to be useful and informative. If you have a suggestion as to how to improve upon the website, please let us know.
It is an honor to serve as the Mayor of Newville Borough, a rural community of 1,367 residents located in the western region of Cumberland County between Shippensburg and Carlisle. The borough is largely residential, although our village district offers a variety of specialty shops, banks, restaurants and services. Newville is well known for two landmarks... the town fountain on Big Spring Avenue and the historic Laughlin Mill located on East Main Street.
Newville is a wonderful place to live, work or raise a family. The town's peaceful rural setting, quaint, small-town atmosphere and low crime rate make the borough a desirable place in which to live. We are minutes from Interstate 81 and Pennsylvania Turnpike. The borough is within a one hour drive of Gettysburg, Hershey and Harrisburg. The Colonel Denning, Pine Grove Furnace and King's Gap state parks are only a fifteen minute drive from town, and if hiking, mountain biking or horseback riding appeals to you, the Cumberland Valley Rails-to-Trails Council will soon complete a nine mile trail linking Newville and Shippensburg. If you are an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys fishing, especially fly fishing, the Big Spring a nationally renowned stream famous for record size brown trout runs through the borough.
I think you will agree that Newville Borough is a small town with much to offer. I hope that you will find our new website to be informative and helpful.
