Works
Small in number, but
great in service best describes the work of the Newville Borough Public Works
Department. Under the direction of Water Superintendent Jerry F. Stamy, the
Newville Public Work Department consists of David A. Handshew and Robert L.
Yost, Jr. The department employs several part time workers which include Stanley
Barrick, Charles Smith and Ralph Barrick, Jr. Serving as equipment operator
is Ronald Ewart.

The Newville Public Works Department
is responsible for:
- The maintenance of all streets
and alleys in the borough which includes paving, patching, line painting,
curb painting, crosswalk painting, sign maintenance, sweeping and cleaning.
- Maintenance of all facilities
owned by the Borough of Newville and Newville Water and Sewer Authority which
includes the Newville Municipal Building, the Newville Area Community Center,
the Cool Spring Water Treatment Plant, the Newville Wastewater Treatment Plant,
Pump Station and Reed Beds, Springhouses, Maintenance Building, Newville Community
Park, Vine Street Parking lot and the town's two landmarks: the Laughlin Mill
and town fountain.
- Plowing and salting of streets
along with snow removal.
- Maintenance of the water distribution
system which includes installation of new water utilities and repair of existing
underground utilities.
- Maintenance of the sanitary sewer
collection system which includes the installation of new sewer utilities and
the repair of existing underground facilities.
- Maintenance of all borough and
authority vehicles and equipment.
- Curbside yard waste recycling
program which includes collection of leaves, brush and Christmas trees as
the curbside. The yard waste is processed and turned into compost material
which is returned free of charge to borough residents.
